Santa is Coming to Town - 2020 Fact Check
Statement: Their communication lacked for this event.
False: We started advertising this event through multiple channels on December 1st. There was a FAQ page that was regularly updated, a website dedicated to providing information, a FB event page where we responded to questions almost instantly, and of course the emails & private messages. All the event details, how the event was going to take place, and what the event was all about were posted across all these channels. During the event our cars communicated through walkie talkies to assure that we stayed on the assigned route and that we didn't overlook any participating children. If you have any suggestions on how to improve our communication in the future please let us know!
Question: Where is Santa? We have been sitting outside our house for hours waiting in the cold!
Answer: During the parade we were posting frequent "live updates" on our FB page about the general area where Santa was heading to. We had a couple GPS tracking apps that failed to work properly prior to departure so we decided to do it the old fashion way. Our event was different than the traditional "Santa Drive By" we were taking time to interact with the children and to present them with the cookies and gifts. That is why there were longer waiting times rather than the simple drive by santa experience you have seen in the past.
Statement: I heard they were expecting to get more donations from the community.
False: We produced this free event to help spread cheer to our local community. Yes we asked for donations and sponsorships to help support our mission to give every child a toy & cookies but we were not in any way relying on this or expecting the community to take on this burden. We understood the finical investment prior to the event just like we have in all the previous free community events that we have produced and will continue to produce.
Question: Did they run out of Gifts & Cookies?
Answer: No we did not run out of supplies during our Santa event. In fact we have plenty left. We plan to do something special with them in the coming days.
Statement: I heard they didn't even give out cookies or presents!
False: We had 1350 bags of cookies and 500 wrapped presents. We gave out these items to the people who we saw along the posted route that we posted weeks prior to the event date.
Statement: We were standing outside and they literally drove by us waving and didn't give us cookies or gifts.
False: Our Santa convoy consisted of 5 Vehicles who had spotters in each car looking for children along the posted approved route. Some people were in their houses which we did stop the lineup to wait for them to come out. Some of these people also never came outside after we waited.
Question: Why wasn't I given an exact time when Santa would arrive prior to the event?
Answer: We weren't able to give exact times because every stop/ interaction was going to be different. We provided the starting point & ending point along with the full route and live updates on our FB. By providing this information ahead of time we thought it would be enough for individuals to plan accordingly.
Thank you to all of our supporters and volunteers for your help creating this event. This isn't a defeat just a learning experience.
Success doesn't happen without failure!
Merry Christmas Everyone.
